余华长篇小说《兄弟》中重复格的翻译研究

A Study of the Rhetorical Repetition in Yu Hua's Novel Xiong Di

2009年年初,余华的《兄弟》英译本Brothers由兰登书屋(Random House)在美国出版,在英语世界里引起了不小的轰动。短短几个月的时间,关于《兄弟》的书评就达二十余篇。参与评论的有杂志主编、作家、翻译家、评论家、社会学家,可见关注范围之广。重复是《兄弟》中广泛采用的一种叙事修辞手法,使故事在叙述方式上有一种返璞归真的单纯和明净,对表现人物的性格,表达人物的情感,传达故事的叙事结构和叙事主题都起到了非常重要的作用。文章以米勒在《小说与重复》中对重复的划分为依据,结合《兄弟》的中英文本,从词语、句子(群)、篇章三个层次,通过细致的文本对比分析,考察了《兄弟》中重复格的翻译方法及其在英语世界的接受效果。认为,《兄弟》英译本比较有效地再现和传达了原文的叙事主题和思想,保留和尽可能地再现了原文中有意义的叙事结构——重复显然起到了很重要的作用。

Since Yu Hua's Novel Xiong Di has been published by the Random House in the U.S.in 2009,it has a great stir in the English world.There were more than 20 book reviews about this novel written by editors,writers,translators,reviewers and sociologists.The rhetorical repetition is one of widely-used narrative devices in this book,which makes the story pure and plays a key role in showing characters'emotions,narrative structures and themes of the story.Based on Miller's classification of repetition in his Novel and Repetition and Xiong Di itself,this paper studies the translation of rhetorical repetitions in Xiong Di on three levels:words,sentences and passages,and thinks that the English translation of Xiong Di effectively reproduces and conveys the narrative theme and ideas of the original text,retains and reproduces the meaningful narrative structure of the original text as much as possible,and repetition obviously plays an important role.
