Use and Translation of Hedges in English Articles of Incorporation

模糊限制语,即能使语言变得不那么模糊或更模糊的词语。已有广泛研究表明模糊限制语不仅适用于学术类文本,也同样适用于科技实用类文本。通过模糊含蓄的语言表达,模糊限制语可以帮助实现语义上的准确客观。本文以10篇英文公司章程为例,主要研究模糊限制语在公司章程中的使用状况及翻译,力图为公司章程翻译及写作提供借鉴参考。

Hedges are defined as words whose job is to make things fuzzier or less fuzzy. Extensive research has shown that they are applicable not only to academic texts but also to technical and practical ones,to help achieve semantic accuracy and objectivity through vague expressions. The present study discusses the use of hedges in ten sample articles and the related translation strategies,which can serve as a reference for the composition and translation of English corporate charters.
