The dose of a classical formula should be in accordance with the official system of the Eastern Han Dynasty, and the direct textual research on the official system of the Eastern Han Dynasty is more convincing than the indirect textual research. The dose of a classical formula is mostly measured by standard measures, such as"liang";"sheng";"chi"etc.,and also by non-standard measures, such as"ge","mei","ba"and so on.It is generally believed that one"sheng"in the Eastern Han Dynasty is about 200mL;one"chi"is about 23cm.The ancient and modern conversion of the unit of measurement"liang"has two main views:one is that one"liang"equals 13.75g,while the other is that one"liang"equals15.625 g.But which statement is closer to the original meaning of Zhongjing’s dose? The ancient and modern conversion of classical prescriptions should not be that one"liang"equals 3 g,but there is no comparative pharmacodynamic experimental study on the conversion ratio of one"liang"equaling 13.75 g and one"liang"equaling15.625 g.Therefore,it is still necessary to discuss the ancient and modern conversion of the unit of measurement of classical prescriptions.
