Objective To explore the effects of educational program based on theory of planned behavior( TPB) on behavioral intention of Intensive Care Unit( ICU) nurses on organ donation. Methods From August 2017 to November 2017, we selected 122 nurses in surgery ICU, cardiac surgery ICU and emergency ICU at a Class Ⅲ Grade A hospital in Harbin as subjects by purposive sampling. All of the nurses were divided into experimental group( n=60) and control group( n=62) with the method of random number table. Experimental group carried out educational programbased on TPB. Control group sent out a hospital brochure on organ donation. Nurses of two groups were investigated with the ICU nurses organ donation advocacy behavior questionnaire before and after intervention. Results Before intervention, there was no statistical difference in the score of organ donation advocacy behavior questionnaire of nurses between two groups( P>0.05). After intervention, the score of organ donation advocacy behavior questionnaire of nurses in experimental group was (2.85±0.36) higher than that( 2.57±0.43) in control group with a statistical difference( t=3.893,P < 0.01). Conclusions Compared with traditional brochure, the educational program based on TPB increases the behavioral intention on organ donation advocated by ICU nurses which helps the development of organ donation career.
