Eva Franch i Gilabert is impressive. Her long hair was tied in a high bun. The bun, as she says, combines tension, rotation, and finally done with the structural element a long hairpin. It strikes me as a similar metaphor with architecture.Gilabert is an architect, educator, curator, director, and the best of all an outside-the-box thinker and a bold actor. Currently, the lady who grew up in the southern delta Catalonia, is the new director of the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London, the youngest and the first female head of the schooI in AA's history. AA, the oldest and most prestigious school of architecture in Britain, has played an imports nt role in global architecture for more than 170 years. Over the past eight years, Gilabert was also a leader of the Storefront for Art and Architecture program in New York, initiating inno vative and critical desig ns of cities, territories, and public life, and focusing on cross-border integration with science, ecology, urban planning, cultural criticism and philosophy.
