Emily Bronte, who grew up living in the wilderness and on the edge of the city, loved the wilderness very much. The two manors in Wuthering Heights, her only novel, represent the wilderness and civilization respectively. The ideal cultural personality in this novel reveals the author’s reflections on human nature. From opposition and struggle to integration and unification, the two manors showed the fusion and change of the personalities of the two big families. It also embodies Emily’s desire to construct the ideal cultural personality: the harmony of the primitive vitality and the civilized legal system.
