To construct a harmonious relationship between editors and authors is conducive not only to achieving a psychological balance between the two parties but also to establishing a reciprocal respect, mutual understanding and a sense of identity for both of the parties. However, the loss of such a psychological contract between editors and authors usually gives rise to a range of negative emotional outcomes such as disappointment, frustration and even humiliation,or more gravely, mistrust,a sense of revenge and misconducts. Based on psychological contract theories,we attempt to explore how a trustworthy relationship between editors and authors are constructed and how the mechanism of commitments operates in the editorial communication. From the prospect of micro-analysis, we explore the perceptive mechanism of the counter-psychological contract and its deficiencies. We also propose the strategies to optimize the relationships between editors and authors.
