The Socialization and Modernity of City Clock Time in Late Qing Dynasty

本文通过对现代性概念的理解,解析现代性时间的特征,以钟点时间在晚清都市的社会化为进路,论述钟点时间在新式学堂、新式交通、工业生产、市政管理、报界报人等社会化过程中的现代性特征及个体的现代性体验;与乡村比较,突显钟点时间在都市社会化的现代性;论析近代中国时间体系嬗变的世界因素。钟点时间社会化的过程及其体验,展示出钟点时间在晚清都市生活中的现代性意义,成为透视中国现代化进程的一个特殊的面相。

By understanding the conception of modernity, resolving the characteristic of modernity time, the clock time is transformed into the road in the late qing dynasty, and the time of the bell is discussed in the new school, modern transportation, industrial production, municipal management, the newspaper and the press, etc., and the modernity experience of the individual. The comparison with the countryside highlights the modernity of the socialization of clock time in the city. The paper also analyzes the world factors of the evolution of the modern Chinese time system. The process and experience of the socialization of the clock time show the modernity significance of the clock time in the urban life of the late qing dynasty and become a special aspect of the process of China’s modernization.
