An Analysis of Philosophical Mechanism in Hermeneutics of The Book of Songs in the Han Dynasty

汉代《诗经》解释学与阴阳气论哲学、感应哲学密不可分。以汉儒解释《旱麓》《灵台》二诗诗句时所言君王"德及鸟兽鱼鳖"为例,其意义与《吕氏春秋》中言商汤"德及禽兽"而"网开一面"不同,非指君王某一具体行为惠及鸟兽,而是指在天地人同具阴阳之气的基础上,君王之德与自然之气同类相感,在此意义上泽及鸟兽鱼鳖。

The hermeneutics of The Book of Songs intheHan Dynasty was inseparable from the philosophy of Yin-yang Qi theory and the philosophy of induction. For example, Confucian scholars in theHan Dynasty said that the king’s virtue benefited birds and animals when they interpreted Hanlu andLingtai, two poems of The Book of Songs. Its meaning is different from that in Lü's Commentaries of History, which said that Tang’s virtue benefited birds and animals because he removed three sides of the net for catching animals, leaving only one side.And it does not mean that a particular act of the king benefits the birds and animals. It means that on the basis of Yin and Yang of heaven, earth and man, the virtue of the king and Qi of nature are of the same kind and they interact with each other. In this sense, king’s virtue benefitsbirds and animals.
