A three-level investigation on current status is carried out through data analysis according to the problem of shortening the shutdown time of dredger due to equipment failure, and the crux of the problem is discovered. The fish bone diagram is used for analyzing the causes. Countermeasures are made according to the main causes after confirming the main causes of the problems, and they are respectively implemented. It has been proved that the shutdown time due to equipment failure of dredger is greatly reduced, which can effectively reduce engineering cost, improve the standard level of similar operations, and broaden the way to reduce cost with innovation.
