中国近代体育运动会最早产生于教会院校,随后在院校及各个学校之间广泛开展,在近代体育事业飞速发展的推动下,又逐渐使其发展到省市、地区性运动会及国家运动会的层面,而参与远东运动会以及奥林匹克运动会是中国近代体育运动会发展的鼎盛表现。从中国初步接触体育运动会、中国体育运动会主权收回、中国体育运动会走向世界三个时期,体现中国近代体育运动会的发展演变历程。

Modern Chinese sports games first originated in church institutions, later getting widely carried out among colleges and schools. Under the rapid development of modern sports, they gradually develop into provincial, municipal, regional sports and national sports. The participation in the Far East Games and the Olympic Games is the most outstanding performance of the development of modern sports games in our country. The three stages of Chinese sports games, that is, the initial contact with sports games, their withdrawal of the sovereignty and getting out into the world, reflect the development and evolution of modern sports games in our country.
