New Ventures' Social Networks, Risk-taking and Firm Performance——Moderating Role of Environmental Uncertainty

基于资源依赖理论和风险理论,本文探讨了新创企业社会网络、风险承担与企业绩效的关系。基于138个新创企业样本数据、运用层级回归模型,验证了风险承担在社会网络与企业绩效之间的中介效应:新创企业风险承担在社会网络与企业绩效影响关系中的中介效应显著——风险承担部分中介社会网络规模对企业绩效的影响、完全中介网络强度对企业绩效的影响。此外,本研究还采用配置方法进一步探讨不确定性环境下新创企业社会网络影响风险承担的作用机制。研究结果表明:在技术不确定性环境下,社会网络正向影响风险承担的效应显著增强;市场不确定性对两者关系的调节效应不显著。本研究的理论探讨和实证发现为探索社会网络对风险承担、企业绩效的作用机制提供了新思路,对创业者也有重要的实践启示。

Based on resource dependency theory and risk theory, it explored the relationship between social network,risk-taking and firm performance in new ventures. Based on the sample data of 138 new ventures, the hierarchical regression model was used to test the mediation effect of risk-taking between social network and firm performance. The empirical results show that the mediation effect of new ventures’ risk-taking on the relationship between social network and firm performance is significant: risk-taking plays a partially mediating role between size of social network and firm performance, and plays a fully mediating role between intensity of social network and firm performance. It also used the contingency approach to further explore the role of new ventures’ social networks in risk-taking under uncertainty. The results show that the effect of positive influence of social networks on risk-taking is significantly enhanced under technological uncertainty, while the moderating effect of market uncertainty on the relationship between them is not significant. The theoretical research and empirical findings provide new ideas for exploring the role of social networks in risk-taking and firm performance, and provide important practical inspiration for entrepreneurs.
