2018 is the most active year for global oil and gas exploration activities since 2014 when oil price is low.International oil companies have begun to increase exploration investment. The number and success rate of exploration and appraisal wells have started to rise, and the discovery cost of per barrel oil has continued to decrease. The discovered reserves in offshore areas are particularly outstanding and they accounted for more than 80%, revealing a series of new plays and prospects. Due to the great potential of undiscovered resources and the low degree of exploration in the global sea areas,Chinese oil companies should acquire more exploration blocks and construct the mechanism of exploration asset entry and exit. As oil companies recover their confidence gradually, oil and gas exploration investment will continue to increase in the future, especially in the offshore areas.
