A Brief Discussion on the Relationship between Wang Yangming and Zen: Centered on Chuang Xilu

阳明学因时代关系与佛教有千丝万缕的联系,王阳明本人与佛教禅宗有过密切的接触。从《传习录》记载看,其与禅师间交往,对佛教的评判,引导弟子的方式,对禅宗术语、意象的使用,都可证明禅宗对其有过重要影响。

Wang Yangming’s idea is inextricably linked with Buddhism because of the times. Wang Yangming himself has had close contact with Zen Buddhism. From the records of the Book of Chuang Xilu, Wang Yangming can be proved that Zen had an important influence on Zen Buddhism by its contacts with Zen masters, its judgment of Buddhism, the way of guiding disciples, and the use of imagery.
