Beloved told us the story of the female slave Sethe who resolutely killed her young daughter in order to avoid her child being enslaved again. With its multiple narrative techniques, the novel was artistically appealing to make the representation of American society under slavery. However, as the crowning achievement of Toni Morrison, its adaptation of film suffered a Waterloo. This paper analyzed the value and significance of the adaptation of Beloved for exploring the cultural hegemony reflected in the novel and the film so as to further deepen the anti-colonial and anti-hegemony in the novel and reconstruct the theme of black culture.
