摘要 This article highlights the fact that anorexia and bulimia nervosa aren't simply psychiatric disturbances, but recent identification of genetic linkages show that they are also physical disease, with higher incidences seen in children who have a parent with an eating disorder. Even having a relative with an eating disorder has become a predisposing factor. However, more research still needs to be carried out on this to establish clear patterns of inheritance. This paper also touches on the greater impact that eating disorders have on society as a whole. Past studies undertaken primarily in female patients have reflected a gradual increase in mortality rates which have been significant enough to be of epidemiological and statistical importance. We then focused on some new treatment approaches and observe an universal pattern of improvement among patients who were also treated with music therapy as compared to standard traditional treatment measures. Finally, we summarized the importance of awareness and education among young adults in preventing mental health disorders and eliminating the stigma around seeking therapy.
