Writing about Society:The New Romantic Plays during the 1920-1930s

20世纪二三十年代新浪漫主义戏剧是经过现实主义的洗礼,从外在世界向内在世界寻求"灵的觉醒"的戏剧。"五四"落潮使得部分新兴知识分子笔下的新浪漫主义剧作出现了寂寞、孤单与彷徨的情绪。这些内心情绪是时代现实和剧作家人生遭遇的折光,是另一种形态的社会书写。此外,"五四"时期现实主义戏剧的社会书写整体上呈现出一种工具理性意识,而新浪漫主义戏剧则有从工具理性向价值理性探索的趋向,体现出更深入地探讨内在人性和寻找人的价值的特征。

Under the impact of realism, the New Romantic plays during the 1920-1930 s seek "awakening" in the inner world. The sorrow, loneliness and loss in these plays reflected the waning of the May Fourth Movement as well as the social reality of the playwrights. The approaching of value rationality of New Romantic plays, shown in their exploration of human nature and meaning of life, was also particular against the background of the instrumental values of the dramatic literature during the May Fourth Movement.
