By analyzing the evolution of tea’s function in different periods through Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, this paper obtains a better understanding of the role of tea as a medium in the development of human history, and a clearer comprehension of the contemporary function of tea as a commodity as well as the practical significance of the development of tea culture.
