从《消失的地平线》中译本看深度翻译之功能与限度

On Thick Translation: Taking Lost Horizon as an Example

"深度翻译"作为一种翻译策略或手段,对目标语读者理解原文历史文化信息、欣赏原文思想内容及主题具有重要意义。本文以Lost Horizon中译本《消失的地平线》为例,简要概括了"深度翻译"的功能,指出"深度翻译"也应有限度,并可借助"隐性深度翻译"来解决注释过多过长之问题。

As one of the translation strategies, thick translation has been playing a key role in helping target readers understand the historical and cultural background of the source text, as well as appreciate the ideas and themes behind it. This essay takes the Chinese translated text of Lost Horizon as an example to show functions of thick translation. It also indicates that thick translation should be of moderate degree, and that covert thick translation may be a solution to deal with those notes which cover too much space and seem to be long.
