Song Bolu's Contribution to the Reform Movement of 1898and His Historical Position

在清末戊戌维新运动中,掌山东道监察御史宋伯鲁在其中发挥了十分重要的作用。宋伯鲁作为"言官",在民族危机刺激之下,时刻以救亡图存为己任,顺应时代潮流,组织创立"关学会",提出变革政治制度、改革科举制度、设立时务官报等建议,并与守旧官僚进行了坚决的斗争,使得戊戌变法的措施得以推行。他的维新思想在一定程度上反映了当时中国的发展趋势,尤其是他以天下为己任、忧国忧民的思想值得后人学习和借鉴。

In the late Qing Dynasty,Song Bolu,the investigating censor of Shandong Road,played a very important role in the Reform Movement of 1898.Under the stimulus of the national crisis,Song Bolu,as an imperial censor,always took the salvation of the nation as his own task,conformed to the tide of the times,organized the establishment of the“Guan society”,put forward suggestions on the reform of the political system and the imperial examination system,changing the Current Affairs Newspaper into a official newspaper and so on.Besides,he also fought with the old bureaucrats,which made the measures of the Reform Movement of 1898 to be carried out smoothly.To a certain extent,his reform thought reflected the development trend of China at that time,especially the idea of taking the state as his own responsibility and the thought of worrying about the state and the people are worth studying and drawing lessons from by later generations forever.
