Painters are a responsive group. They are endowed with a responsive heart, who may seek to perceive their forefathers, and perhaps catch the meaning of eternity within a split second. Professor Zheng Jinyan, for example, presents an everlasting humanistic spirit through his works that portray ancient artists, despite perplexing barriers of time. This spirit is precisely the mental image that an artist has been so dedicated to seek. When it is reflected in his works, the inherent unity is reached, either for the artist or the object. If Professor Zheng’s works are viewed this way, a sense of familiarity may come up in our mind. In this issue we include some of his representative works and creative insights, and a short essay by Wang Kun as well.
