Monitoring and Balance Reflected in the Signature System in Southern Dynasties

南朝典签初为一介小吏,职不高,权亦不重。后因皇权需要,典签被赋予了监督与制衡州镇门阀势力的权利,其权始重,登上政治舞台,一度左右政局。但其后也因自身缺乏有效的监督与制衡,以致权力畸形发展,终难容于皇权,其权旁落,回归原点。

At the beginning of the Southern Dynasties, the signing official was low at the ranking level of officials. The position was not high and the power was not great. Later, due to the need of imperial power, the signing official was given the right to supervise and balance the power of the powerful families in different states. The signing official’s power began to increase and even controlled the whole stage of politics. However, due to the lack of effective supervision and checks and balances, the signing official’s power development was abnormal, and it was difficult to accommodate the imperial power, and its power fell to the original point.
