Research on English Translation of the Dialect Idioms in Hangzhou Folk Arts

杭州曲艺是以口语说唱为特征的艺术形式。杭州曲艺文本中的方言熟语是具有强烈地方文化信息的词句,这是翻译的难点。杭州曲艺文本中方言熟语翻译要根据其不同的语言交际功能采取直译、意译等异化或归化的翻译方法。从目标语中选用正确的词语来翻译原文,同时考虑语境的一致,而不应拘泥于词语形式上的一致。

Talking and singing are two characteristics of Hangzhou folk arts. The dialect idioms used in them convey enormous local culture information which is the difficulty of translation. According to the different language communicative functions, the foreignizing Translation and the domesticating Translation which include the literal translation method, the free translation method and so on should be adopted. In order to find the proper expressions in the target language to translate the source text, context consistency should be taken into consideration rather than word-form consistency.
