日本对《孙子兵法》的关注、研究乃至运用由来已久。大谷光瑞的《孙子新注》以近代战争,特别是对第一次世界大战的分析为重点,然后延伸到他对大正时期(1912-1926)国际局势及日本外交的看法。该书虽然在很大程度上只能说是一家之言,甚至不乏歪曲和臆断,但其目的并非是从文字训诂、字句解释角度来对《孙子兵法》进行纯学术的解读,而是要以所谓"新注"的形式来宣扬自己的"日本国家主义"立场和对华观,并试图以此来煽动日本国民,影响日本外交。

In Japan,The Art of War has been focused on,studied and employed for a long time.The New Annotation of Sun Tzu written by Ootani Hikarumizu,a China Hand,focuses on modern wars,especially the analysis of the First World War and extends to his opinions on international situation and Japanese diplomacy during Taisho Period(1912-1926).Ootani Hikarumizu’s New Annotation of Sun Tzu,to a large extent,just represents his own academic ideas and has much distortion and assumption,and the purpose is not purely academic interpretation of The Art of War from the angles of literal exegesis and words explanations but the publication of his own Japanese nationalism position in the form of so-called“new annotation”and view on China,which can be used to incite the masses and influence Japanese diplomacy.
