Cormac McCarthy's The Road is flooded with violence and death. The natural and succinct language as well as deliberate plot setting is the foci in his writing. This paper takes “invisible” narrative as a point to analyze the text from three aspects: invisibility and narrative progression, the subtext of narrative and narrative projection. In terms of invisibility and narrative process, this paper focuses on the implied meaning of invisibility and the narrative progression under the joint effects of text driving force and reader motivation. In the aspect of narrative subtext, this paper expounds the deep meanings under the surface structure of text, which depends on historical and social context. In terms of narrative projection, the narrator selectively focuses on the inward of characters,therefore;the readers can switch their perspectives in different salient details. The Road elaborates the paradox relation between the “false” existence and “true” invisibility and outlines the hidden clues. What’s more, this paper reflects McCarthy’s deep thinking about the alienation and moral predicament in today’ s modern society.
