通艺学堂首次使用“图书馆”之名考

Research On the First Use of the Chinese Word “Tu Shu Guan” in Tongyi School

通艺学堂图书馆的成立并非1897年初,其开办和"图书馆"名称的使用均晚于1897年9月20日。张元济在馆名的选择上,经历了从"藏书楼""藏书馆"到"图书馆"的变化,其最终选定"图书馆"的名称受《时务报》译文影响的可能性很大,但也无法排除取自傅云龙游记和中国古诗中"图书馆"一词的可能,或者兼而有之。

The establishment of the Tongyi School Library was not in early 1897. Its opening and the naming of the Chinese word “Tu Shu Guan” were later than September 20, 1897. The choice of the Chines name of the Tongyi School Library had undergone a change from “Cang Shu Lou”“Cang Shu Guan”to “Tu Shu Guan” by Zhang Yuanji. The name of “Tu Shu Guan” eventually selected was highly likely to be affected by the translation on the Chinese Progress ( Shi Wu Bao ). However, it is impossible to exclude the possibility of the word “Tu Shu Guan” taking from Fu Yunlong s travel notes and Chinese ancient poetry, or both.
