Brain text,a term of ethical literary criticism, refers to writers’perception and cognition about their works before the final draft.By means of brain text, the paper reads The Crucible,a disputable play by Arthur Miller, and investigates its revisions from original plans discovered in his autobiography, interview and essays.Accordingly,it is found that Miller pondered over the characters and plot as the existence of brain text. The analysis of brain text in the play and its draft consequently reveals the playwright’s pursuit of social criticism, artistic value and moral teaching.
