张四维历经明代嘉靖、隆庆、万历三朝,出身于晋商家族,崇儒重教的家学渊源与官至首辅的仕宦经历为他的诗歌创作奠定了丰厚的基础。张四维的古体诗数量不多,部分古体诗以能反映一定的社会现实而具有史料价值。张四维的近体诗数量较多,内容多写他与官员的往来赠答,部分诗歌属于咏怀之作,表达了诗人对人生的体验与历史兴亡的感叹。他推崇唐诗,强调诗歌的审美意蕴,注重诗歌真情实感的抒发,体现出了"复古"而又"求真"的创作追求。

Zhang Siwei was a poet of Shanxi in the periods of Jiajing,Longqing and Wanli of the Ming dynasty.Zhang Siwei was born of a family of merchants.His family tradition in respecting Confucianism and emphasizing education of family members,and his experiences being the prime minister of the Ming dynasty laid a solid foundation for his poetry creation.The number of Zhang Siwei’s poems with the pre-Tang style is limited,some of which are valuable for their realistic fashion.Among Zhang Siwei’s large number of“modern style”poems,most reflect the communication and interaction with his colleagues.Some poems reflect his life experience and exclamation of the rise and fall of history.Zhang Siwei paid regard to the Tang poetry,which reflected the back-to-the-ancients ideology to some extent.Different from the restoration of ancient ways of the“Seven Writers”,Zhang Siwei emphasized more on the aesthetic perspective of poetry,and the reflection of real sentiment in poems.Both the back-to-the-ancients ideology and truth pursuit are the features of Zhang Siwei’s poems.
