正本清源:郭廷以与“胡适派”学人关系新论

Tracing back to the Source: A New Interpretation of the Relationship between Guo Tingyi and the “School of Hu Shi ”

在中研院近代史研究所成立初期,郭廷以曾遭受史语所学人的多次杯葛。论者曾以"北大派"对"南高派"的学术压制解释之,固然有其事实依据,但与史事并不完全相符。首先,郭廷以并非真正意义上的"南高派",其从未产生与"北大派"一争高下的拒斥意识;其次,郭廷以与史语所学人的关系并非一成不变,不同学人、前后不同时期呈现的状态也大相径庭。由于缺乏对历史语境和学人私交的长期追踪,既有论述不乏猜测、片面之嫌,与事实真相实有相当距离。

In the early days of the establishment of the Institute of Modern History of Chinese Academy of Sciences Guo Tingyi suffered many boycotts for a long time from scholars from the Institute of History and Language. The staters used to explain it by arguing that the “School of Nangao” was academically suppressed by the “School of Beijing”. Although there is a factual basis it is not completely consistent with the historical facts. First of all Guo Tingi is not a member of the “School of Nangao” in the real sense, and he has never produced a sense of rejection of the“School of Beijing”.Secondly the relationship between Guo Tingyi and the scholars from the institute is not immutable as the state of different scholars in different periods is also very different. Due to the lack of long term follow up of the historical context and personal acquaint ance with the scholars the previous conclusions may be one sided and suspicious which may not tally with reality.
