The number of Chinese residents in Los Angeles has increased substantially since 1965 when the new Immigration Act was introduced, and most of this increase has taken place in suburbs, especially in San Gabriel Valley,an area lying east to the Los Angeles city. Most of San Gabriel Valley’s Chinese are first-generation immigrants, who came directly to the suburbs from their original country. The suburbanization of the Chinese immigrants in Los Angeles has undergone a single process that combined immigration with suburbanization, which could be termed as transnational suburbanization.Besides,International links of San Gabriel Valley’s Chinese played a vital role in their success in real estate, producer services and high-tech industries, which showed significant transnational nature.Socio-economic stratification has occurred among the Chinese immigrants living in San Gabriel Valley due to their different economic activities, which has resulted in three different settlement areas with clear features of different socio-economic status.
