新闻是公众获取知识的一种重要形式,在美国被视为与美国政府三个权力部门平起平坐的“第四种力量”,在公共领域和私人领域中扮演的角色日益重要。美国主流新闻媒体从1970年代中期开始塑造学生运动前行动者主义者重新拥抱美国主流价值观和美国体制的形象,在有意无意中体现了与主流意识形态的一致性,体现了美国主流意识形态对社会文化机构和个体认知的强大塑造力。

News is one of the most important media for people to get accessed to information and knowledge. In the United States, it is regarded as "the forth force” equal to the three administrative branches of American government. It plays an increasingly important role in public and private spheres. From the mid-1970s, American mainstream news media began to reshape the image of former student movement activists embracing American mainstream values and American system. It consciously or unconsciously embodies the consistency with the mainstream ideology and reflects the strong shaping power and reshaping ability of American mainstream ideology on social, cultural institutions and individual perception.
