省试诗,本指唐代士子应礼部进士科考试规定格式所作之诗,后来成为对考试诗的一种泛称。在隋唐科举取士选官用吏的大背景下,广大儒生游走科场,追逐功名,不仅成为政治舞台的主角,也为古代文化繁荣作出重要贡献。王棨的省试诗创作虽然数量不多,但其在体式、韵律、写法、修辞及语言运用等方面却极具代表性,反映了唐代省试诗在创作规范性、士人生存状态及社会风尚等方面的深层状态和内涵。
