From the marxist perspective of feminism, this paper analyzes the novel My Brilliant Friend written by the anonymous Italian writer Elena Ferrante. It argues that the novel presents the “sisterhood”of mutual support and competition formed between “I” and “Lila” on the way of growth and highlights the important role of education as a female spiritual enlightenment through the “metaphors” of the two mothers. In the social environment where private ownership still existed and socialized production was still dominated by men in the novel, women gained wealth and strived for economic independence by relying on or imitating men. Behind their compromise resistance was bitterness and powerlessness.
