武英殿聚珍馆始末考

The Whole Story of the Pavilion of Treasure Collection in the Hall of Martial Valor

四库全书纂修伊始,即把征集图书分为应存、应抄、应刻三类。应刻图书由四库全书纂修副总裁金简总领其事。金简主持刻完四种图书后,觉得“所用版片浩繁,且逐部刊刻亦需时日”,遂拟改为活字印刷。此举得到乾隆皇帝的认可。乾隆皇帝认为“活字版之名不雅驯,因以聚珍名之”,随后成立聚珍馆负责具体摆印事宜。聚珍馆所刻图书即为著名的武英殿聚珍版书。长期以来,学界对武英殿聚珍版书有了比较多的研究,但对刻书机构——聚珍馆鲜有涉猎。笔者不揣浅陋,拟对聚珍馆存续的始末进行梳理。

When the compiling of the“Si Ku Quan Shu”or“Complete Library in the Four Branches of Literature”was just started,books gathered were divided into three types:books to be stored,books to be copied and books to be printed.The printing of books was managed by Jin Jian,Deputy Chief for compiling the“Si Ku Quan Shu”.After taking the lead in completing the printing of four kinds of books,Jin Jian thought that the printing plates had piled up and it would take a long time to print each of the books.So,the movable-type printing was adopted,and this move was recognized by Emperor Qianlong.However,in the opinion of Emperor Qianlong,the movable-type printing version sounded inelegant,and he recommended the name of Treasure-collection Version.Then,the Pavilion of Treasure Collection was set up to be responsible for book printing.The books printed at the Pavilion of Treasure Collection are the well-known Treasure-collection Version of books in the Hall of Martial Valor.For a long period of time,many scholars have studied this version of books,but few have dealt with the book printer-the Pavilion of Treasure Collection.The author thus makes an attempt to streamline the whole story of the Pavilion of Treasure Collection.
