A Study on Chicheng Series During the May Fourth Movement

学界关于五四时期报刊的研究多为整体性介绍,多聚焦于具有全国性影响的报刊,对于地方性报刊研究较少。浙江省博物馆所藏《赤城丛刊》提倡的宗旨和内容体现了台州救国协会的思想和主张,反映了其爱国进步性,符合时代潮流。它提倡白话文风;密切关注时局,提倡坚决抵制日货;提倡新思想,号召妇女起来解放自己,主张移风易俗,废除旧礼教;注重调查,提倡科学精神。通过对其创办背景、办刊宗旨和内容以及影响的研究,可了解五四爱国运动在台州地区的开展和进步思想的传播情况。但《赤城丛刊》也存在一定的历史局限性,个别说法过于偏激。

Most studies on the newspapers and periodicals during the May Fourth Movement are overall introduction and mainly focus on journals with national influence,so the studies on the local ones are relatively rare.The tenet and contents of Chicheng Series now collected in Zhejiang Provincial Museum reflect the thoughts and propositions of Taizhou National Salvation Association and its progressiveness of patriotism consistent with the trend of that time.This series advocated the written vernacular Chinese;it paid close attention to the situation then and proposed to firmly boycott Japanese products;it promoted new thoughts,calling on women to rise up and liberate themselves,and proposed to change the existing customs and abolish the old ethics;it emphasized investigation and advocated the scientific spirit.Through the study on its establishment background,tenet and contents,we can understand the development of the May Fourth Movement and the dissemination of the progressive thoughts in Taizhou.However,there are some historical limitations in Chicheng Series,for instance,some of its statements are too extreme.
