Yu Jian’s poetics is the cornerstone of his daily life poetics. In his poetic theory, four key words-touch, divinity, softness and retreat-are worthy of attention. Touching defines the relationship between the poet and daily life, and removes the psychological obstacles in the poet’s writing of daily life poems. Divinity embodies the poet’s efforts to sublimate daily life and his/her devotion to poetic creation. Softness initiates the process of cleaning up the ideological and intellectual power attached to language and provides legitimacy for the entry of daily oral language and empirical common sense into poetry. Retreating conveys the poet’s close attention to the tension between daily life and the modernization process. Although these four words can not cover the rich connotation of Yu Jian’s poetics, they clearly show the context of his daily life poetics construction.
