摘要
文学作品中的性话语翻译历来鲜有人问津。本文以中国当代小说中的委婉型性话语及其英译为研究对象,针对所搜集的语料,发现这些性话语的生成机制大致可分为泛指化机制、模糊化机制、喻指化机制和省略化机制四类。译者在处理这些委婉型性话语时主要使用了再现和显化两种策略,其中以再现更为常见,而经显化处理的委婉型性话语绝大多数是由泛指化和模糊化机制生成的。鉴于中西读者对委婉型性话语的认知中存在较大共性,如果有文本语境支持,再现策略的效果往往会更好。
Since there have been few researches on the translation of sex-related expressions in literary works in China, this paper investigates sex-related euphemistic expressions in contemporary Chinese fiction and their corresponding English translations. As regards the data collected, it is found that these expressions are roughly generated by four kinds of mechanisms, namely, generalization, fuzzification, metaphorization and omission. It is also found that reproducing and explicitating are two major translation strategies adopted by the translators: the former is seen more often, also, most of the sex-related euphemistic expressions explicitated in the target texts are generated by the mechanisms of generalization and fuzzification. Moreover, considering cognitive commonalities between the Chinese and western readers in understanding and expressing sex euphemistically, the reproducing strategy usually produces a better effect than explicitating, if these euphemisms are placed in relevant textual contexts.
