A Study on Major International Art Exhibitions New China Attended and Their Significance

新中国初期,美术界选派代表和作品积极参与了"世界青年与学生和平友谊联欢节""社会主义国家造型艺术展览会"以及"莱比锡国际书籍艺术展"等重要的国际美术展览。由于苏联社会主义现实主义思想在新中国美术界的传播,我国美术家们的参展作品大量描绘革命历史题材以及社会主义建设题材,这也推动了美术领域整体创作样貌的改变。新中国的美术家们将建国初期主题性绘画创作的成就集中展现给其他国家,以图像化的方式彰显了我国进行社会主义建设的决心与热情。这些展览促进了国内的主题性绘画创作以及现实主义美术的发展;有效传达了新中国和平的愿望,为搭建国际友谊的桥梁做出了贡献;同时通过形象化的艺术语言向其他国家展现了新中国独立自强、和谐友善的国家形象,扩大了新中国在外交和文化领域的国际影响力。

In the early days of New China, Chinese art circle selected several delegations and works to participate actively in important international art exhibitions including "World Festival of Youth and Students';"Socialist National Art Exhibition: and '"International Book Art Exhibition of Leipzig". Due to the wide spread of Soviet socialist realism in Chinese art circle, works of Chinese artists portrayed the revolutionary history and the socialist construction, which promoted the overall creation spirit of the art field. Artists showed their achievements in thematic painting in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, demonstrating their determination and enthusiasm for socialist construction in a visualized way. These exhibitions not only contributed to the development of the thematic painting and realist art in China, but also effectively conveyed their desire for peace and built the bridge of international friendship. At the same time, through the figurative language of art a new image of China was established which was more independent, harmonious and friendly to other countries, and the international influence of China was expanded in diplomatic and cultural fields.
