Australian feminist movement has been in the forefront of the world. Its women won the right to vote in 1902, but aboriginal women were excluded. Aboriginal women were subjected to the dual oppression of racial discrimination and patriarchy. From the 1920 s to the 1960 s, aboriginal women fought for the basic civil rights such as the right to vote. They began to fight side by side in unity, forcing the Australian government to make policy adjustments in order to obtain legal guarantees. The aboriginal women’s movement had achieved satisfactory results. In addition to their own unremitting efforts, the influence of international public opinion, and the help from progressive whites all played positive roles.
