A Comparative Study of Fuzzy Numbers in Chinese and English from the Perspective of Functional Equivalence

数字的功能是精准计数,但其在方方面面体现出模糊的特性。在跨文化交际中,如不遵循一定的策略和原则,必定会导致误解和文化冲突。美国语言学家Eugene Nida在语用学的基础上提出功能对等理论,要求把语言和文化结合起来,对模糊数字的研究有极大意义。本文对模糊数字进行了收集整理,通过分析数字的模糊现象,探讨影响模糊数字的文化因素及模糊数字的重要功能,希望对跨文化交流的顺利进行有所帮助。

Numbers provide the basic functionality of precise counting, but they show some kind of fuzziness sometimes. If not complying with certain strategies and principles, people cannot communicate effectively. The functional equivalence theory advanced by Eugene Nida has an essential influence on the understanding of fuzzy numbers,for it calls for a combination of language and culture. This thesis collects loads of fuzzy numbers and explores the cultural factors involved by analyzing fuzzy numbers imbued with cultural connotations, thus revealing the important functions fuzzy numbers perform in communication.
