“大夏先生”王伯群

Wang Boqun, the “Daxia Great Sir”

王伯群是同盟会元老,近代民主革命先驱、政治家和教育家。辛亥革命后,他组织参与护国运动、护法运动、南北议和,以及执掌国家交通事业,在中国近代史上产生过重要影响。王伯群的后半生献身于中国教育,创办大夏大学及系列中学,殚精竭虑,屡经创业之艰、发展之难、播迁之困而永不放弃。王伯群以"服务国家,曰公曰诚"之精神,最终把大夏办成"东方哥伦比亚大学",为中国高教史上的一个奇迹。"牺牲自我,功成不居",是王伯群最真切的写照。

Wang Boqun is a veteran of the Alliance, a pioneer of Modern Democratic Revolution, a politician and an educator. He organized and participated in the Campaign to Defend the Republic,the Constitution Protection Movement, the Peace Talk between South and North and took charge of national transportation after the Revolution of 1911, which had an important influence in China's modern history. Wang Boqun devoted himself to Chinese education in the latter half of his life. He founded the Great China University and a series of middle schools. He never gave up whenever he encountered difficulties in starting, developing and displacement migration. Eventually, Wang Boqun turned the Great China University into "Oriental Columbia University" with his spirit of "serving the country, publicity and sincerity", which is a miracle in the history of Chinese Higher Education. So,“Sacrificing himself and no greedy in fame and fortune” can be the most appropriate synonym of Wang Boqun.
