"科玄论战"作为"新文化运动"的组成部分,表面上是关于科学是否适用于人生观问题的学理争论,背后却是事关中国文化在面临西方文化的压力之下何去何从的重大现实问题。它一方面承担着"启蒙"的责任,另一方面还肩负着"救亡"的使命,同时由于是发生在一战这一暴露西方文明弊端的历史事件之后,因此还具有某种"后现代"的意味。时至今日,我国依然面临着建设现代化强国、实现中国梦的艰巨任务,"科玄论战"中的诸多议题对当代中国仍然具有重要的启示意义。

As an integral part of the New Culture Movement,"the controversy between science and metaphysics" was seemingly the academic debate on whether science could be applied in the field of the view of life, but in a deep sense, it was a major practical issue concerning the direction of Chinese culture under the pressure of western culture. On the one hand, it bore the responsibility of enlightenment;on the other hand, it also carried the mission of salvation. At the same time, because it happened after the World War I which exposed the disadvantages of western civilization. Thus it contained some implication of post-modernity. Nowadays, China still faces the arduous tasks of building a modern and powerful country and realizing the Chinese Dream. Many issues in "the controversy between science and metaphysics" still have critical enlightenment on contemporary China.
