《唐顿庄园》中话语标记语well的语用功能及翻译策略

On the Pragmatic Functions and Translation Strategies of the Discourse Marker “Well” in Downton Abbey

话语标记语well是会话交际中常见的语言现象。在前人研究的基础上,将话语标记语well的语用功能进一步划分为以下四类:话语结构功能、信息修正功能、面子威胁缓和功能和情感功能。以《唐顿庄园》第一季对白中话语标记语well为研究对象,通过分析其在不同语境中发挥的不同语用功能及传达的不同语用意义,发现话语标记语well的翻译大致可以归纳为以下两个翻译策略:一是译作汉语感叹词,二是译作短语。

Discourse marker“well”is a common linguistic phenomenon in conversational communication.Based on previous studies,this paper further divides the pragmatic functions of discourse marker“well”into the following four categories:discourse structure function,information correction function,face-threatening mitigation function and emotion function.This paper,taking the discourse marker“well”in the first season of Downton Abbey as the research object,and analyzes its different pragmatic functions in different contexts and different pragmatic meanings to be conveyed.The result finds that the translation of discourse marker“well”can be roughly summarized into the following two translation strategies:one is to be translated as Chinese interjections,the other is phrases.
