Uncertainty is one of the features of post-modernism. Through the description of the uncertainty of death which includes the ambiguity of the reasons, ways and time of death as well as the dynamic and random nature of death itself, Kurt Vonnegut subverts the traditional views of death and depicts the results of the blind development of post-modern society to readers. Meanwhile, the author calls on human beings to change the destiny with optimist attitude and positive actions to go beyond the uncertainty of death and get rid of the dilemma of helpless life and ridiculous death.
