The main purpose of the basic English course is to develop students' English listening, speaking, read. ing and writing skills, aiming at improving students' language and communication skills. The traditional basic English teaching mode is outdated. The teacher is the main body, the students' autonomy is not strong, and the in. teraction between teachers and students is insufficient. The relationship between language learning and language application is separated. The theme teaching method is a new type of teaching mode, which will be applied to ba. sic English classroom teaching and will achieve better teaching results. This paper first analyzes the current situa. tion and shortcomings of basic English classroom teaching. Then, it expounds the concept and characteristics of thematic teaching method, and the feasibility and application value of the subject-based teaching method in the basic English classroom. Finally, combining the characteristics of subject-based teaching and basic English sub. jects, the paper puts forward the application strategy of subject-based teaching method in basic English class. room. Based on the new mode of basic English teaching based on "thematic teaching", the combination of theo. retical teaching and practical teaching, pays attention to the cultivation of students' learning ability, can improve students' comprehensive ability, effectively improve the quality of basic English teaching, and realize the basic English teaching work.
