英国是西方年鉴重要出版国家之一,对西方年鉴从古代历书向早期年鉴和现代年鉴改良做出过巨大贡献。其间,英国最初出版Almanac类年鉴,后在16世纪出现Yearbook类年鉴,两种年鉴在内容设置和服务方向上存在一定区别,并且发展成为当今世界两种最主要年鉴形式。英国《政治家年鉴》出版于19世纪后半期,为世界著名年鉴,通过对《政治家年鉴》编撰内容和编撰形式考察,可以看到西方Yearbook类年鉴编撰特点,为我国年鉴编撰起到一定帮助和借鉴作用。

Britain is one of the major publishing countries of Western almanacs,and has made great contributions to the development of Western almanacs,from the ancient almanacs to the early almanacs and then to the modern almanacs.Britain has been the first country to publish almanacs. The 16 th century witnessed the advent of yearbooks in Britain.These two kinds of chronicles are different from each other in contents and target readers,developing into the two major forms of chronicles in the world today. The British Almanac of Politicians published in the late half of the 19 th century enjoys a worldwide reputation. Its content and form are characteristic of Western yearbooks,which can be used as a reference for the compilation of China’s yearbooks.
