Procedures and Path for Translation of Rail Transit Public Signs With examples drawn from translations of public signs of Guangzhou Metro

现有轨道交通公示语翻译的流程及路径均存在不同程度的问题,具体表现为操作流程缺乏系统性、翻译路径不当。在现有研究的基础上结合英语国家轨道交通公示语实例,提出轨道交通公示语翻译的规范流程及实用路径,以期对广州乃至我国轨道交通公示语英译提供参考和有益的启示,以利于提高轨道交通公示语英译质量。

Existing translation of public signs is problematic in varying degrees in terms of translation procedures and path, such as unsystematic translation procedures, and inappropriate translation path. In response to this, the present thesis attempts to, based upon previous research and via examples of rail transit public signs in English-speaking countries, propose a normative procedure and a practical path for rail transit public signs translation, in the hope of shedding some light on public signs translation of Guangzhou Metro as well as metro systems of other cities of this country, for the ultimate goal of improving its quality.
