In the new era, colleges and universities should strengthen thrifty education for college students, explore more forms of innovative and richly-fledged educational methods, and cultivate college students′ awareness and habits of frugality. This article, starting with the historical inheritance, spiritual consciousness and the requirements of the times, expounds the important role of thrifty education in solving the problem of students′ lack of frugality, perfecting students′ moral personality and strengthening their concept of ecological civilization.Colleges and universities should carry out thrifty education for college students in such aspects as strengthening the rooting of thrifty thought, promoting the integration of thrifty thought into classroom teaching, increasing the propaganda and guidance of thrifty thought, creating a cultural atmosphere of campus thrift and carrying out practical education of thrift.
