The Literary Aesthetics of Yuan Hao-wen

元好问以先秦《风》《雅》和汉谣魏什为"正体",赞赏晋唐抒发真情实感之作,反对宋代刻意雕琢酬唱之风,并在此基础上提出"以诚为本"的诗学本质观。在鉴赏论上,他秉承了周昂等的"以意为主"之论,并有所发挥。在创作论上,他主张"师古"、"得唐人为指归",和赵秉文同声相应,为元代末期抑宋尊唐的诗风嬗变起到了助推作用。在师古宗唐中,他主张"中和之气"的儒家美学风格,并上追风雅传统。他的鉴赏论与创作论,均在自己的文学实践中有所体现。

Yuan Hao-wen regards the Book of Songs and Han Wei Folk songs as orthodox school.He expresses his appreciation for Jin Tang works real feelings,and is against the Song style of ornamentation and courtesy.Based on these,he puts forward his view of poetry essence--“Sincerity”.On the appreciation theory,he has been adhering to the theory of “meaning oriented” by Zhou Ang and puts forward his own development.On the creation theory,echoing with Zhao Bing-wen,he advocates “learning from the old masters”,“taking Tang poets as purport”. By this,he helps change the style in late Jin.In “learning from the old masters”,he advocates the “Moderate style” of Confucian Aesthetics,and respects the tradition of the Book of Songs .His views on appreciation and creation are all reflected in his own works.
