A Probe into the Activity Space of Emperors’ Fathers in Early Tang Dynasty

唐代前期三位太上皇退位之初,仍掌握着一定的政治权力,居住和活动在政治中心中,人身自由和活动范围也不受限制,与继位的皇帝之间尚能处于和谐的状态。随后,当太上皇不愿意完全放弃政治权力,频繁活动于具有特定政治意义的场所,对皇帝的政权构成威胁时,皇帝便会寻找各种理由,利用一定的手段,让太上皇远离政治中心,最终迫使其淡出政治舞台。

Right after their abdication in early Tang Dynasty,the three emperors’ fathers still had some power.They lived in the core of political circle.Further,their personal freedom and activity scope were not restricted,and were in harmonious relationships with their successors.Afterwards,they were not willing to give up their political power completely,and were active in the places with special political significance.This threated the emperors’ throne so some degree,so the emperors would find some reasons to let their fathers to go far from the power center and eventually fade out from the political stage.
